Maclaurin Art Gallery will showcase the work of renowned Scottish artist Barbara Rae

June 21, 20242 Mins Read

The works of a renowned Scottish artist will be on display in Ayr, starting on Saturday, June 22 through until Sunday, September 8. The Provost James Rae Trust is holding an extensive exhibition of more than 80 works by Barbara Rae CBE RA, this summer at the Maclaurin Art Gallery, Ayr, South Ayrshire.

The exhibition is being held at the MacLaurin Art Gallery, set within the magnificent grounds of Rozelle Park and features early Scottish works- as well as many from Rae’s previous Spanish, Irish, and Lammermuir series.

A spokesperson for the exhibition organisers said: “Times and Places delves into how Rae has perceived and interpreted the land throughout her career, often revisiting specific locations frequently to view and capture the ever-evolving environment. Rae travels the world in search of inspiration, choosing to visit key places that provide her with first-hand insight into an area’s specific social history.

“In this latest exhibition not only do we witness the gradual evolution of her work but also how Rae continues to record the memory of the landscape, how they themselves are the witnesses to human presence and the changes over time.”

The Provost James Rae Trust was established to administer the Barbara Rae RA CBE archive of paintings and prints, with the aim of raising funds to help mid-career artists with specific projects that they otherwise would not be able to afford.

Working alongside The Maclaurin Trust, the two Scottish charities are excited to bring this extensive exhibition to the general public.
