Every year, the Council on Culture & Arts accepts proposals from individual artists and small groups for exhibitions for COCA’s Art in Public Places program, which includes the downtown City Hall Art Gallery and the Artport Gallery at the Tallahassee International Airport.

The COCA Arts Advisory Committee, consisting of a volunteer jury of artists and citizens, evaluates the proposals and recommends an exhibition season for the Art in Public Places program.

Artists 18 years of age or older who reside in Tallahassee and/or the Big Bend Region (within a 100-mile radius of Tallahassee) are invited to submit up to 10 artworks for consideration.

Artwork must be original, completed in the last three years, and not previously shown in the physical Artport or City Hall gallery spaces. COCA accepts all media, 2-D or 3-D, including fine art, craft, and photography, but excludes video and performance art.

If you want to learn more about the Art in Public Places application process, COCA offers a free 2-part online workshop series. The series will cover all the details and processes related to COCA’s Art in Public Places application and valuable tools that can be carried over to art exhibitions and artist professional development.

Part 1 will be an overview of the Art in Public Places application with step-by-step instructions and frequently asked questions answered. In part 2, artists will learn how to document their artwork best, write an exhibition proposal, and write an artist statement.

For artists interested, view the full prospectus and application, as well as register for the Workshop series at tallahasseearts.org. For questions, contact COCA’s Public Art Manager, Sam Joslin, at sam@tallahasseearts.org.
