Sculptures and storms are part of Red Deer’s First Friday art gallery exhibits

The exhibit Connection: Sculptures by Deb Laninga is showing at the Kiwanis Gallery in the Red Deer Public Library to Aug. 14.

The brain and augmented reality are part of Red Deer’s art gallery exhibits, which will have extended viewing hours and opening receptions on the First Friday of July.

The display Connection: Sculptures by Deb Laninga is showing at the Kiwanis Gallery in the Red Deer Public Library to Aug. 14. The artist from Redwater, who creates bronze figures as well as portraits and figurative paintings, will be in attendance at a First Friday reception on July 5 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Taming the ADHD Brain is a mixed-media exhibit by Carmen Winter, which can be seen at the Community Gallery in the Red Deer Arts Council office, 4919-49th St. from July 4 to Aug. 26.  A First Friday reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. with Winter, who has created many murals in the city.

Interpretations of nature and landscapes are captured in artist Julia Roth’s The Wild Side exhibit at the Marjorie Wood Gallery in the Kerry Wood Nature Centre. The show runs to Aug. 26. The First Friday opening reception is from 4-6 p.m.

Art and technology unite in Aeris Osborne’s exhibit at the Viewpoint Gallery in Red Deer’s Culture Centre (5205-48th Ave). The artist painted 10 Alberta heritage buildings and augmented reality is part of the viewing experience. Using the Artivive App, viewer can see the paintings being created and view actual photos of the depicted buildings. The exhibit is on from July 5 to Aug. 30. There’s an opening reception from 6-8 p.m. on First Friday with an artist’s talk at 6:30 p.m.

The Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery is open until 8 p.m. on Friday Friday for three shows: Being Human: Portraits of Homelessness by Lana Michelin can be seen until Aug. 10; Here I Am — Can You See Me? portraits of Indigenous residential school children by George Littlechild is running until Aug. 17; and For Progress and Development, celebrating 130 years of the Red Deer Chamber of Commerce is on until July 23.

Storm Chasers, weather and nature-related works by a dozen or more local artists, are showing at Curiosity Art and Framing (5002-48th St.) until July 24. The gallery will be open from 5-7 p.m. on Friday Friday, with some of the artists in attendance.

Abstract vs Landscape… a Conundrum is a show by artist Kevin (Kelly) Christensen. The landscapes and expressionist works can be seen at the Velvet Olive Lounge until Aug. 31. There’s a First Friday reception from 5-7 p.m.

Spring Summer Flora Red Deer, an exhibit of Dennis Moffat’s prints, is continuing to Aug. 31 in the Corridor Community Gallery, downstairs at the Red Deer Recreation Centre until Aug. 30.
