Each month, at the headquarters of Amy’s Kitchen in downtown Petaluma, the six exterior picture box windows are employed as a kind of walk-by art gallery, featuring an ever-changing array of art works by artists from around the world. This month, it’s Marcello Velho, from Brighton, on the south coast England. An entertainingly vibrant artist and illustrator, Velho combines vivid colors and whimsical imagery to create fantastical birds. The five paintings on display this month meant to evoke feelings of freedom, beauty and a connection to nature.

A new group show, titled “Rhythm, Reflection, Connection,” features series of works by Gail Foulkes, Andree Young and Jennifer Mygatt Tatum. The show invites visitors to explore the interconnected title themes through a diverse expression of art. “Each piece invites you to pause, reflect, and find your own place within the larger tapestry of life.” An opening recetion will take place on Thursday, Aug. 15 from 5-8 p.m.

Ethical Clothing

In one pleasantly-lit corner of this popular women’s clothing store in downtown Petaluma, a mini-gallery has been created, and the new show has just opened. The exhibit features work from married artists Nuala Creed and Jeffrey Ventrella. Creed’s works are mainly ceramic sculptures, while Ventrella works in highly mathematical graphics and fractal designs. Ethicalclothing-petaluma.com
Magic Shop Gallery & Studios

The next eye-popping show at the Magic Shop Studios gallery is a solo exhibition from Agnes Pierscieniak, accompanied by a group show from members of the Magic Shop collective. Gallery Hours are Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. MagicShopStudios.com.
Opening night is Saturday, Aug. 17, from 4-7 p.m. All Magic Shop studios will be open, with artist on site to welcome the curious and talk about what they create at the large studio complex. The show runs through Nov. 8.
Nanny Goat Gallery

Named for a picturesque hill in San Francisco, Petaluma’s newest art showcase, Nanny Goat Gallery, is an exciting and surprise-packed piece of Water Street’s art-and-dining revival. Located just a few doors south of Brewster’s Beer Garden, the new space, founded by Emily and Paul Eccles, has opened with an exhibition titled “Ephemeral,” running through Aug. 25. The show is fantastical display of fanciful visions from a variety of artists, populated with owls, mermaid-esque maidens and mysterious creatures.
Petaluma Arts Center

“Black Artists of Northern California,” a new main gallery exhibition curated by Petaluma artist Denise Ward, is a celebration of 28 artists from the South Bay, East Bay, North Bay and Sacramento. Petaluma River Park

Throughout the month of August, the Petaluma River Park Foundation is hosting “Dreamscape” exhibitions of pictures, sketches, maps and models of what the park on the McNear Peninsula could become – with opportunities to share your own ideas and perspectives.
There are three Petaluma River Park Dreamscape Exhibits taking place throughout the month of August, with all three ending on Aug. 31. The largest and most detailed is at the River Park Foundation’s headquarters at 159 H St. at Petaluma’s Foundry Wharf. Ot is open Wednesday-Friday 12-5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Another is at the Petaluma Health Center, 1179 N.
