Acrylics, wool, and metals: Station Street Gallery showcases 3 artists this month

October 9, 20243 Mins Read

Station Street Gallery will host its ‘Meet the Artists’ evening on Oct. 10 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

It has been said that working with multiple layers of acrylic colour, texture, and new methods and materials will affect the way you think and experience art.

Duncan’s Station Street Gallery owner Linda Roseneck is inviting art lovers to come and marvel at the three different mediums with works by local artists this month until Oct. 15. After seeing local artists featured in such a way in Victoria, Roseneck was inspired to create a space to showcase the talents of local artists in her own gallery. The intimate gallery will host its third free art night on Oct. 10 from 6 to 8:30 p.m., which will feature jazz music and a performance from Andy McCormack, as well as an array of refreshments.

Bernadette McCormack, who has been painting since 1992, and a Cowichan Valley resident since 2007, will be showcasing some of her original acrylics. McCormack, who resides in Ladysmith and has been recognized for her whimsical style and bold colour choices, said she draws inspiration for her art from her family and friends, and the beauty in the world such as trees, hills, mountains, the oceans, the sun, moon and happiness and hope. See more of her work at bernadettemccormack.com.

“I am so grateful to have the opportunity to have all my originals together and on display at Station Street Gallery this month because it gives the viewers the chance to see works from my imagination as well as sacred spaces I have visited,” said McCormack. “I have a vivid imagination and some of my paintings are very narrative, representing emotions and ideas. If you look long enough, a story will reveal itself. And some of my paintings are from actual places I have visited and my goal with these is to convey the energy that these majestic locations have to offer.”

Brenda Issac Takao, who is a multi-media artist originally from Alberta, will move art fans with her metal sculptures. Over the years she has dabbled in watercolours, acrylics, as well as metal sculpture and through her artwork believes in bringing beauty into her life.

“Beauty, to me, is an essential part of living, we crave to be surrounded buy it and to create it in our lives,” said Issac Takao in her website bio. “As I see it, beauty is anything that brings you joy and peace. Beauty is the smile on a mother’s face, the kind soul that brings your family food when you are having a crisis. It is a place where your soul can go to rest. It is the flowers that grow in my garden in spite of my inept gardening. When I am creating, that is the beauty that I am striving to touch. It is also this beauty that I am wanting to give to you, my audience.”

Art loving audiences will also enjoy an eyeful of the wool felt scarves and bird nest work by local artist Cathy Lagrange.

“I hope the public will enjoy a colourful display of original West Coast acrylics by a very popular artist as well as a wide variety of metal art for both inside, and outdoors,” said Roseneck.
