Four ways to fill your home with art without spending a fortune

February 7, 20254 Mins Read

WALLS filled with art can transform a room – but prints do not come cheap.

Luckily, there are lots of ways to cover your home with attractive works without spending a fortune.

Update a room or create a home gallery with these ideas.

PAPER THING: Frame leftover scraps of wallpaper or free samples of it to create eye-catching pictures.

It is a great option if a roll you love is too expensive or if you feel a whole room of it would be too much.

Cut it to size using a craft blade then use spray adhesive to glue on to a cheap foam or mount board and fit in a frame.

For a striking display, create a mini gallery by selecting pictures in similar styles or colours and grouping them together.

BRUSH UP YOUR SKILLS: A great way to add personality is to create your own hand-painted canvas.

You can copy a simple design — geometric shapes are easy to follow — or paint your own abstract scene.

It is not only a budget way to add beauty to your room, it can also relieve stress. For a helping hand, use an adult paint-by-numbers kit — from £2.99 at Amazon.

RING THE CHANGES: Create some eye-catching artwork from the photos on your phone.

Get up close to nature and take shots of spring buds, perfect petals, towering trees or swaying grasses.

Then you can print out poster-size pictures using an online photo service, often for less than £5. You can buy frames for around the same amount.

MASTERS CLASS: You can even go online and download some famous images for free — though check the copyright on each particular site and picture before doing so.

Give your walls a space theme, with pictures from nasa.gov/images or find a masterpiece at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art — search “public domain images” in the collection at metmuseum.org.

Search for free pictures at unsplash.com.

Use a printing service to create posters that you can display in hangers, which are often cheaper than frames.
