A Free Little Art Gallery in Duluth’s Denfeld neighborhood is a compact collection of local creativity.
And it’s all free for the taking.
Brianna Borka started it in 2021 after reading an article about one in Seattle.
“I think I was probably within the first 50 in the United States,” she said. “I believe we’re up to 730 Free Little Art Galleries around the world, mostly in the United States.”
The Duluth one, at 1016 N 56th Ave W, was the second in the state of Minnesota.
“I just am wanting to spread joy, so I’m just trying to encourage people to keep doing art,” Borka said.
It works just like a Little Free Library. People can leave a mini masterpiece or take something they like with them. Borka’s rule is that “if it fits, it sits. Like a cat.”
“It doesn’t have to be good,” she said. “I mean, make weird art. Make ugly art. It’s OK.”
There are a few figurines of people inside the gallery. She asks that people move them so they’re admiring a new piece of art but leave them in the box.
She posts scenes and updates on Instagram.
