Gaganpreet Kaur, the accused in the Delhi BMW car crash case that killed a finance ministry official, was granted bail by the Patiala House Court on Saturday.

She was granted bail on a bond of Rs 1 lakh and two sureties of the same amount, reported ANI. She was also directed by the court to surrender her passport.

Earlier this month, Kaur was arrested after she rammed her BMW into Navjot Singh (52), a senior official in the Ministry of Finance, and his wife in Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan area.

Singh, a Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, succumbed to his injuries after the BMW hit his motorcycle while returning home from Bangal Sahib Gurudwara. His wife also suffered serious injuries.

The accused took the victims to her family hospital, 19 kilometres away from the crash site, raising questions from the prosecutors during the court trial.

The police also focused their investigation on why Kaur took the victims 19 kilometres away from the crash site for medical treatment, bypassing a nearby facility where urgent trauma care could have been given to the couple.

Following the accident, Kaur was taken into custody, which was extended by a Delhi court till September 27. However, on the last day of her custody, she was granted bail by the court.
