Morningside Gallery wins international award

October 20, 20252 Mins Read

An Edinburgh art gallery has won a prestigious prize for curation at an international art event in London.

Morningside Gallery was announced as the winner of the Curatorial Excellence Award at the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea, where the Edinburgh gallery was exhibiting alongside 114 others from across the globe.

The award was judged by art historian, comedian, and presenter Verity Babbs, Director of Aqua Art Miami, Cordelia de Freitas and Fair Director, Hugo Barclay.

Established in 2003, Morningside Gallery specialises in contemporary Scottish art, with a focus on painting and ceramics. The gallery’s exhibition calendar features inspiring and varied solo and mixed artist exhibitions, with regular meet the artist events, providing art buyers with variety and quality within a relaxed and friendly gallery space.

This was the team’s first time exhibiting at the London event, where they showcased a diverse selection of artworks, from Scottish artist Hedi Munro’s gorgeous gold leaf paintings, to dramatic, atmospheric paintings by Stephen Mangan alongside new paintings from Peter Munro, Allan MacDonald, Jennifer Irvine RSW RGI, Stuart Buchanan, Andrew Thompson, Brian Henderson and recent Edinburgh College of Art graduate Ella Williams.

Commenting on the award, UK Fair Director Hugo Barclay said, “Morningside Gallery stood out with a beautifully curated stand that is balanced and cohesive, providing a valuable experience for visitors.”

Eileadh Swan, director of Morningside Gallery said: “We were absolutely delighted to receive this award, particularly as we were exhibiting alongside so many wonderful galleries from across the world. It’s been a real pleasure to showcase paintings from some of Scotland’s most well-loved contemporary artists and to introduce the work of a recent graduate to the thousands of people who visited the Affordable Art Fair London this year.”

Morningside Gallery represents a number of artists all year round, showing their work in the welcoming gallery space in Edinburgh morningsidegallery.co.uk
