Mark Sloper opens Bread Contemporary Gallery in Hungerford

October 30, 20252 Mins Read

Bread Contemporary Art has opened inside The Emporium in Hungerford, aiming to ‘uplift authentic voices’ and ‘challenge convention’ without the ‘pretence of a typical art gallery.”

Founded by Government ambassador Mark Sloper, who is known for his neon glassworks, and artist Bethany Perry, the pair have exhibited together at the Affordable Art Fairs and in galleries across the country and have decided to create an art space in Hungerford.

Bethany said: “It’s an exciting story for Hungerford, a town steeped in tradition now home to a vibrant, modern art space celebrating originality, courage, and creative freedom.

“It’s an exciting new venture and we’re getting lots of good support. It’s really different, there aren’t any modern art galleries here, and people can go and see some really good art.”

Mark Sloper is known for his neon glasswork, including London Calling and God Save the Queen, and has his work collected by Elton John and Boy George.

Bethany’s work champions self-expression with body impression artworks and workshops using resin and gold leaf, to celebrate individuality, vulnerability and strength.

The pair are also setting up an online platform to showcase the seven artists the gallery holds.

The shop is open 10am until 5pm on Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10am until 4pm on Sundays, and it is closed on Mondays.
