Earsham Street Deli to expand in to Bell Gallery in Bungay

November 11, 20252 Mins Read

The Bell Gallery in Earsham Street, Bungay, has been showcasing work from artists across the country for three years.

But now as the owner, Jackie Bell, is retiring at the end of November, the gallery is set to be transformed for a new purpose by a well-known business in the town.

Earsham Street Deli is set to take over the premises and open its third store, The Edit, directly opposite its flagship shop.

Michelle Steele, the owner of the deli, said: “It is very exciting and it feels like the right time for us.”

Firstly, Ms Steele is opening an Advent pop-up in the premises to showcase the deli’s Christmas collection after the current exhibition is over in December.

She then aims to open the doors to the shop permanently at the end of January next year.

It will include some of the deli’s current range while introducing a selection of homeware, gifts, and lifestyle products.

The deli’s other store is in Snape Maltings.

THE BELL GALLERY’S FAREWELL

Before opening the gallery three years ago, Mrs Bell ran a homeware shop called Bells of Suffolk for 18 years in the same premises.

And since opening the Bell Gallery, she has held more than 30 exhibitions showing the creativity of both local and national artists.

She said: “I’ve really enjoyed running the gallery, I’ve met some wonderful artists and it’s been great to see so many people enjoying original art and buying pieces for their home.

“There is also going to be another art gallery opening in Broad Street next year, so the town won’t be without a gallery where people can rent space to sell their artwork, which is great news.”

Mrs Bell and Ms Steele ran a Christmas pop-up shop in the gallery last year, which Ms Bell described as a “great success”.
