The free Art Library, featuring thousands of art books and resources, will reopen to the public from April 1 at 10am at the New Art Gallery Walsall.
Located on the mezzanine, the Art Library provides a dedicated reference resource where visitors can explore a wide range of art-related materials, with a collection including around 5,000 books, exhibition catalogues and art magazines, alongside the gallery’s collection of Artists’ Publications.
The reopening follows a programme of refurbishment works designed to enhance the space, including new flooring and a series of environmental upgrades.
Secondary glazing has been installed to improve insulation and minimise heat loss, helping the library maintain a comfortable temperature all year round.
In addition, a new solar photovoltaic (PV) array has been installed on the roof, providing the building with a renewable source of energy.
Councillor Gary Flint, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Wellbeing at Walsall Council, said: “It’s fantastic news to hear about the reopening of the Art Library.
“The space gives residents, artists and visitors free access to a varied collection of art books, catalogues and publications that support learning, creativity and research.
“Facilities like this are so important in helping people explore their interests, discover new ideas and connect with art, and we’re delighted to be opening the doors again to this refreshed space.”
Visitors will also have access to internet facilities and reference materials, making the library a valuable resource for artists, students, researchers and anyone with an interest in art and culture.
The gallery will also introduce revised opening hours from, including opening one hour earlier on Sundays at 11.00am and the Art Library will be open Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 4pm.
