Learn the heritage art of screenprinting at a Wiltshire gallery

April 4, 20243 Mins Read

Beginners can learn to screenprint at a two-day residency at the Gallery at Little Bedwyn next week.

Berkshire Printmakers

Join Berkshire Printmakers on Monday and Tuesday (April 8 and 9) for a fun, creative residency in the idyllic village of Little Bedwyn. Learn about the Heritage Craft of Silkscreen Printing with two experienced Newbury printmakers.

Get to grips with the art technique made famous by the likes of Andy Warhol, John Piper, Eduardo Paolozzi and Roy Lichtenstein.

No experience is necessary for this printmaking short course, as you will taken step by step through how to make your own multi-layered prints, how to use optical colour mixing, create positive and negative stencils, learn about making translucent inks, and get a handle on using a squeegee. At the end of the course you will be introduced to experimental screen printing techniques working with paints, charcoal and colour pencils directly on the screen to create monoprints. This course is ideal for any artists wanting to explore this versatile technique, all materials are included in the price.

Berkshire Printmakers are husband and wife – Sarah is a trained art teacher with a degree in design and Venezuelan artist Cipriano has taught screen printing at degree level. He studied his Masters at Chelsea College of Art.

Cipriano has his art studio in Kintbury and welcomes visitors by appointment. They have taken their workshops into Marlborough College summer school, Radley College, and worked with Salisbury Museum and The Arc, Winchester to name a few and they will soon be running workshops at Southampton Art Gallery.

Regular workshops (known as paint-ins) are held at Rosvikgallery in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside. The Rosvik collective has historically been made up of invited artists who specialise in abstract and semi-abstract works and who have come together as a result of their shared interest, but due to demand these very special sessions are now being opened up to a wider audience. This will be the first time Silkscreen Printing will be offered in the workshop space.

Sarah from Berkshire Printmakers said: “We are really excited to be running the workshop in conjunction with the Gallery, Little Bedwyn and the Rosvik group,

“We have visited the workshop space and were impressed with facilities and the location is ideyllic, the Gallery is surrounded by nature and it will hopefully influential for the students on the course .
