Digital Art Week will return in April to complete citywide cultural take-over of London

April 11, 20244 Mins Read

Digital Art Week will return to London, April 22-28, using the city as its canvas to showcase more than 120 leading artists, such as: Krista Kim, Ouchhh, Sasha Stiles, Cristina la Porta, Zach Lieberman, Zunc Studios, and Paul Milinski. Londoners will experience a wave of activations across the city, including prestigious London galleries, outdoor spaces, iconic music venues and over 100 digital billboards, bringing inspiring digital art to the forefront on a scale that has never been seen before across the capital.

Digital Art Week will be hosted by some of London’s most prestigious art galleries, exhibiting significant talent in the field and using old and new technology in order to push the boundaries of digital art. Venues include Unit London, Asprey Studio, HOFA, Gazell.io and Shoreditch Arts Club. Artists and platforms to be featured at these symbolic locations include: Casey Reas and Erika Weitz at Unit London, Harto and Khaled Makhshoush at Asprey Studio, Sougwen Chung, Emily Xie and Niceaunties at HOFA, Harold Cohen at Gazell.io, and George Barber and Phillip Birch at Shoreditch Arts Club.

Celebrating digital music, Digital Art Week will present an exclusive event with a pioneering DJ at KOKO during the week. Further details of this gig, including the headline act, will be revealed on Digital Art Week social channels closer to the time.

As well as displaying within art galleries, Digital Art Week will exploit the city’s substantial digital technology such as the Outernet building which will feature a new artist each day, (artists mentioned above). W1 curates will display work from Joshua Davis all month, and include featured artists for one hour each day (8-9pm) as part of Digital Art Week. Artists include: Beeple, Ash Thorpe, GMUNK, Lost Soul of Saturn, and Six n Five. A vast number of outdoor billboard locations, including Piccadilly Circus, will be hijacked for Digital Art Week to bring digital art out into the open and available to all.

Venturing further into outdoor spaces, artists such as Andres Reisinger, Paul Milinski, Six n Five, and Cristina la Porta will each blend a vivid reimagining of nature onto the backdrop of urban London locations through immersive Augmented Reality (AR) experiences, provided by partners No Standing, Artivive and Augmento. The three experiences will allow users access to stunning nature-scapes while exploring the city. Locations such as Battersea Power Station, Big Ben, the London Eye and Tower Bridge.

To mark Earth month, taking place in April, Digital Art Week has partnered with 1 Hotel, London’s first mission-driven sustainable luxury hotel. At London’s newest sustainable destination, a series of exclusive moments will take place to celebrate the intersection of digital art and environmental issues. These will include talks from leading digital artists, as well as an intimate showcase of Zunc Studio’s nature-inspired collection ‘photosynthesis II’ that will be displayed across the hotel all week. Digital Art Week and 1 Hotel have partnered with Don Julio 1942 and Johnnie Walker Blue Label, serving bespoke cocktails to guests throughout this exclusive presentation.

Digital Art Week CEO and founder Shaina Silva said:
“We are thrilled to be back in London for Digital Art Week. This year will be the biggest iteration of the movement that we have ever produced. This year we are using the fabric of the city to showcase more than 120 artists across a wide variety of venues and artistic mediums. The team are excited to see how London will react to the many activations and events that we have planned over the week. Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to Digital Art Week”.

Helping Londoners navigate the many activations and art work displayed, a digital passport can be used to collect tokens of each experience and safeguard a digital memory of the locations visited. Art work can be stored within an apple / google wallet and played back, bringing users closer to the art and artists themselves. The Digital Art Week passport is provided by its technology partner, Ivy Pass.

Digital Art Week will also provide a platform for international business leaders and brand owners from many different industries such as fashion, hospitality, and sport to discuss the art and technology that will provide meaningful relationships between brands and consumers in the future. The panel series will be showcasing a wealth of influential speakers such as Craig Hepburn, Chief Digital Officer, at Art Basel and Freya Salway, Head of Google Arts & Culture Lab.
