Anna Park ‘Look, Look’ Exhibition at AGWA

May 1, 20241 Min Read

Anna Park recently launched her first international museum exhibition entitled Look, Look at The Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) which showcases her latest large-scale black and white drawings that capture contemporary life with intensity.

The works explore themes of constant visibility and self-awareness. Park humorously dissects female identity through references to film and TV, merging familiar images with fragmented dialogue to reflect the complexity of identity formation. These lively images mirror our information-heavy culture, prompting viewers to consider the influence of media on collective consciousness. Curated by Rachel Ciesla, the exhibition will include an extensive events program and a new publication by Studio Lin and AGWA.

Park has gained recognition for her detailed charcoal and ink works blurring the lines between representation and abstraction. Drawing inspiration from popular culture and personal experiences, she explores identity, sexuality, and power in today’s media-driven world. Her satirical drawings blend elements from various art movements, shedding light on societal pressures around beauty and gender norms.

Look, Look is on view through September 8, 2024.
