Calgary-area art exhibition highlights county’s beauty

August 11, 20242 Mins Read

The exhibit at the Mountain View Museum Art Gallery runs from Aug. 1 to Sept. 15, with visitors having an opportunity to view and purchase pieces created by the local artists

MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY – A new art and photography exhibit that opened this month at the art gallery in the Mountain View Museum & Archives highlights the natural beauty of the district, say officials.

The Wild Art exhibit features works created by local photographers and artists inspired by the landscapes, wildlife and cultural heritage of the Legacy Land Trust Society (LLTS) Smith conservation easement property, which is located in the Eagle Hill area along the Little Red Deer River.

The art works were created during and following a June 1 event called Paint, Pen & Pixels at the property. Seven artists visited the property during the day.

The art project is a joint venture by the LLTS and the Mountain View Museum & Archives.

The art works aim to foster a deeper appreciation for the area’s natural, agrarian and cultural richness, says Rebecca Neilsen, executive director of LLTS.

“Collaboration allows our organizations to draw on each other’s expertise, to amplify our message by sharing information with a wider audience, and increase local awareness of our program,” said Neilsen.

Mountain View Museum Art Gallery is located at 5038 – 50 Street in Uptown Olds. Museum manager Chantal Marchildon says, “We are always delighted to work with amazing and talented central Alberta artists.

“Mountain View Museum & Archives is proud to collaborate with Legacy Land Trust to present their Wild Art show. Our gallery supports local artists with shows and sales.”

The exhibit at the Mountain View Museum Art Gallery runs from Aug. 1 to Sept. 15, with visitors having an opportunity to view and purchase pieces created by the local artists. Neilsen says the artists will be donating some or all of the purchase price back to LLTS.

The society is a registered non-profit charity dedicated to the conservation and stewardship of ecological, agricultural and heritage lands in central Alberta, helping to create environmental easements to help conserve and protect natural areas.

The Mountain View Museum & Archives is a non-profit organization located in Olds that collects, preserves and provides access to the history, heritage and culture of the district.
