At Cabinet on Monday 22 July, Cabinet members agreed a change to the meetings of the Museum Committee and the creation of a community panel to increase community input into Hastings Museum & Art Gallery.
The Museum Committee had recommended moving to four formal meetings a year and the creation of a sub committee to allow a wider range of voices from the community to input into the future direction of the museum. The recommendations are part of Hastings Museum & Art Gallery’s work as a new National Portfolio Organisations (NPO). Moving to four formal meetings means the public can see the decision-making process of the committee more easily.
Cllr Adele Bates, lead councillor for arts, culture, tourism and leisure, equalities and community engagement, said: “I’ve been really excited to hear more about the excellent work being done at Hastings Museum & Art Gallery. The small team there do great work and there is some great community engagement and partnership working. By creating a new sub committee, we are hoping to open up this amazing community facility to more residents from across the town and spreading the word about their work.”
Hastings Museum & Art Gallery is open from 10am to 5pm Tuesday to Saturday and 11am to 4.30pm on Sundays. The museum is at John’s Place, Bohemia Road, Hastings, TN34 1ET. You can find out more about the events and exhibitions on the Hastings Museum & Art Gallery website.
