Chilli Art Projects: Giving Overlooked Artists a Voice

May 22, 20243 Mins Read

Chilli Art Projects a new artist-run space opposite the Houses of Parliament is having a closing party on June 6th for their first exhibition a group show titled MEMORY.

Founded by Aubrey Higgin, Chilli Art Projects began as an artist-run program in 2021. The gallery has since grown into a respected voice in the London emerging art scene. The gallery prides itself on giving overlooked artists a voice with a particular focus on cultivating international artistic dialogues.

Its programming focuses on diverse, emerging, international artists – united by a desire to tell untold stories of experience, identity & environment through unique painterly, material or conceptual processes. With a focus on painting, Chill Art Projects promotes cross-cultural exchange – bringing many international artists to London audiences for the first time. By showcasing artists across multiple continents, the gallery establishes a discursive critical voice – addressing diverse perspectives of art within the broader context of contemporary artistic practices.

Situated opposite the Houses of Parliament and just a stone’s throw from the River Thames & Lambeth Palace, the new gallery space occupies a stunning 2500 sq ft ground floor development. This prestigious location channels London’s rich historical past, whilst allowing access to some of the world’s grandest art galleries and museums, including Tate Britain, the National Portrait Gallery and the Garden Museum. A flourishing artistic enclave, the area itself is home to a number of contemporary galleries, from Damien Hirst’s Newport Street Gallery to Charles Asprey’s Cabinet gallery and much-loved gems such as Corvi-Mora & The Sunday Painter.

A key feature of the gallery is the main exhibition space – a pristine white cube space which opens up from the subtle shop front the gallery occupies. In this space, the gallery aims to present ambitious, expansive museum-quality presentations.

Chilli Art Projects, Closing Party June 6th 6PM – 9PM, chilliartprojects.com/contact

Chilli Art Projects take great pride in having a close relationship with the artists that they encounter and work with. The gallery looks to give artists a solid foundation to build their career through the careful placement of their works, as well as through mentorship and guidance from other practising artists across different sectors and media. The gallery believes in encouraging and nurturing artists from all backgrounds and walks of life and giving them the tools to find their voice within the contemporary art scene.

The gallery is also dedicated in our mission to widen public access to international art, running a regular programme of talks and events, often in collaboration with external organisations. The gallery and its artists have collaborated on a number of public events and artworks with Tate Britain, the Royal African Society, W1 Curates and Lambeth Council.

Public outreach, education and dialogue are key to the gallery’s commitment to improving accessibility to the arts. As such, the gallery also produces publications featuring many of our artists under our publishing wing, Chilli Press.
