Clitheroe art gallery hoping to engage wider community

August 11, 20242 Mins Read

A Clitheroe gallery is inviting all local artists to get creative and share their love of nature this summer and feature in a community exhibition.

The Platform Gallery has asked people of all ages to show off their artistic skills and create work which will be displayed to the public at the end of the month.

With a wealth of beautiful Ribble Valley countryside available to participants there is plenty on offer to get the creative juices flowing.

Gallery supervisor Jacklyn Shackleton said: “We know we have a wealth of artistic talent and the ideal subject matter right on our doorstep and we want to tap into that.

“The subject of the exhibition will be ‘Inspired by Nature’ and we’re fortunate to be surrounded by a rich and diverse natural landscape that we want people to celebrate in any way they feel best.

“That might be by using a camera, your phone, pen and pencil, by brush and watercolour, ceramics or textiles or in any other creative way.

“We want people to get out into the countryside and share their love of the nature around them.

“It doesn’t matter about your age or ability; the most important thing is that you’ve been inspired by nature and embraced your creativity.”

The Platform Gallery provides a unique marketplace for handmade crafts from across the UK with an exciting program of exhibitions focusing on work by both national and Lancashire-based designers.

Running in tandem with the professional “inspired by nature exhibition”, the gallery hopes to showcase the work of looking people alongside 12 successful British Craftspeople.

Displays include Maxine Hunt’s forged giant wildflowers, Verity Pulford’s glassware microorganisms and large-scale vibrant stitched rolling hills by Donna Cheshire.

The deadline for entries is August 19, with the finished creations needing to be brought to the gallery between August 17 and 19.

Any entries over a metre in height must inform the gallery staff to ensure they can be accommodated.
