Finance Minister reviews construction progress of A. Ramachandran Art Gallery

February 19, 20251 Min Read

Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal on Wednesday reviewed the construction progress of the art gallery being built at Sree Narayana Guru Cultural Complex to display the paintings and sculptures of late artist A. Ramachandran. The 6,000 square feet art gallery will house paintings by Ramachandran with a market value of approximately ₹300 crore. There will be an art marketing centre and a user experience gallery along with the main gallery.

Around 50 paintings, sculptures, miniature art and studio replicas will be part of the art gallery. Rare paintings measuring 12-feet high and six-feet wide will be part of the exhibition. The Minister said that the art gallery will inspire new initiatives in the tourism and cultural sector in Kollam.

He interacted with NASA senior scientist and Ramachandran’s son, Rahul Ramachandran, during the visit and also held discussions with representatives of the Kerala Museum, which is handling the construction, and the Lalitha Kala Akademi, which is supervising the project. Lalitha Kala Akademi chairperson Murali Cheeroth, curator R. Sivakumar, Kerala State Chalachitra Academy secretary C. Ajoy, Culture Deputy Director Sini K. Thomas and others were present.
