Antje Rook and Yollande Posthumus unveiled the Tiny Gallery on Portland at the start of the year, with the intention of making art accessible to everyone regardless of their background or finances.

The miniature gallery, only slightly bigger than a shoe box, plays host to quaint pieces of pottery, paintings and other creative mediums that are free to admire outside the Beehive Café.

Since its creation, beautiful exhibitions have been displayed from local groups on Portland, including Muntsy’s and LGBT+side, and no two displays are ever alike.
One of the pillars of the galleries’ creation was that nonprofessional artists could try a new skill and have the chance to see their work displayed in public.
Antje said: “We wanted this to be for them and for local community groups.”

The tiny gallery has proved so successful that the creators were able to launch a new portable gallery, that recently travelled to Poundbury for its Winter Exhibition in November, in aid of Arts in Hospital at Dorset County Hospital.
Antje and Yollande raised £450 to get the gallery underway, and have now launched a fundraiser to pay for repairs as it approaches its one year on the island.

Yollande said: “Since its launch at the beginning of 2025, The Tiny Gallery has become a cherished addition to the communities on Portland. During the past year, it showcased the miniature creations of several local community groups and local artists, all received with great aplomb.
“Months of outdoor exposure has resulted to some extensive wear and tear, and the Tiny Gallery is in desperate need of some TLC and weatherproofing. We would also welcome some funding towards curating and maintaining future exhibits.
“We would welcome any donations that would enable us to continue serving our local community and ensure that it remains a vibrant part of Portland’s cultural heritage.”
The GoFundMe page has already raised over £300 of its £400 goal with one anonymous benefactor donating £100 to the art hub.
