Horsham museum and art gallery, on the Causeway, Horsham, shared on social media this morning that it will close until further notice.
It wrote: “Horsham Museum and Art Gallery will be closed today, Tuesday 16 September, following a break-in that occurred overnight.
“The incident resulted in damage to the museum which requires repair.
“Sussex Police have been notified and are actively investigating the matter. We are currently helping with their enquiries.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate the public’s understanding while we work to restore the site.
“The Museum will remain closed until further notice, and we will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.”
The museum and gallery hosts a range of collections relating to Horsham and the wider district, which have been collected since 1893.
Sussex Police have been contacted for further information.
