Lowes Court in Egremont announces featured artist for April

March 30, 20241 Min Read

Peter likes to paint outdoors whenever possible, as he likes to have a lively-looking picture, attempting to catch the essence of the scene within under three hours to depict the changing Cumbrian weather and light.

Amongst the works of his mentors are the sketches of Constable and the French outdoor painters of the mid-nineteenth century such as Corot and Daubigny.

A spokesperson said: “He first painted in oils in the 60s and says that “when we moved to Cockermouth, as a painter I was like a child in a sweetshop, and set about making oil paintings, many of them plein-air sketches, in the lovely Cumbrian landscape.

“I was able to combine working for a small homelessness charity in Whitehaven with making as many outdoor oil sketches as time and the Cumbrian weather allow.”

Peter will be at the gallery on Saturday morning April 6, from 10am to 1pm for ‘Meet the Artist’ and all are welcome.

The exhibition wall is on now and will be on display until April 27, and the gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 1.30pm.
