Malmesbury to transform into art gallery this summer

August 20, 20253 Mins Read

The High Street + Art Gallery exhibition is turning shops and streets into a public display of creativity, featuring work from around 50 artists.

Running from August 23 to September 21, the free street art trail is one of several events planned to celebrate art across Malmesbury throughout August and September.

Councillor Stephen James, mayor of Malmesbury, said: “It’s wonderful to see local art and artists celebrated every summer in Malmesbury.

“This adds so much colour and depth to our community and attracts visitors from outside to tour the town and its attractions.”

The exhibition, organised by Malmesbury Town Council and led by Councillor Kim Power, pairs independent shops and businesses with artists.

Councillor Power said: “Malmesbury is definitely the place to visit this summer.

“There is something for everyone, you can follow the free trail and just enjoy looking at the artwork, however it’s also available to buy.

“This year we’ve been blown away by the amount of talent of those exhibiting their artwork, from well-known and established artists to those who are just starting out.

“We are also really delighted with the phenomenal response from around 50 artists and corresponding number of shops and businesses wanting to take part this year and there is a real buzz in town about the exhibition.”

The trail begins at the Town Hall and finishes at the Market Cross, with a map available to guide visitors through all participating locations.

Artworks can be purchased at the Town Hall.

Each sale earns the shop a 20 per cent commission, while the artist receives the remaining 80 per cent.

Younger artists will also have an opportunity to shine.

Caerbladon has invited young people aged 13 and above to submit work for a professional exhibition at the John Bowen Gallery, running from September 12 to 25.

Submissions in any medium are welcome, including painting, drawing, photography, video, printmaking, collage, and mixed media.

Entries should be sent to hello@caerbladon.co.uk by the end of August.

The Flying Monk Art Trail returns on September 27 and 28, featuring 34 artists across 17 venues from Sherston to Little Somerford.

The trail offers visitors the chance to meet artists in their studios, homes, and pop-up spaces.

Nine artists are new to this year’s event, including painter Annie Kevans and sculptor Andrew Metcalf.

Little Somerford will welcome textile artist Janice Botterill, potter Emily Clarke, and the Little Somerford Art Group at the village hall.
