Marlborough art gallery to open exhibition of rare artwork

April 8, 20262 Mins Read

The Little Gallery in Marlborough is hosting a three-week display of paintings, sculpture and ceramics by artists including David Hockney, Sandra Blow, Patrick Heron and Elisabeth Frink.

The exhibition explores the evolution of 20th century art, beginning with Impressionism and Post-Impressionism and continuing through to the radical Avant Garde of the 1960s.

A notable highlight is a selection of works by Royal College of Art graduate Anthony Whishaw, including the rare Interior with Musicians (1967), inspired by Pink Floyd rehearsing near his Notting Hill Gate studio.

Charlie Minter, director at Winsor Birch, said: “We’re particularly delighted to be exhibiting some beautiful, hand-crafted British studio ceramics, a discipline which has received widespread international attention and become a highly collectable area.

“With works across price points, there are many works to be enjoyed and valued.”

The exhibition also includes Harold Harvey, John Duncan Fergusson and Richard Eurich and features an evocative piece of a steam train crossing the Wiltshire Downs.

Elisabeth Frink’s Mirage II from 1967, a powerful bronze sculpture, is also on display.

Ms Frink has strong regional ties through the Frink Collection at Dorset Museum & Art Gallery in Dorchester.

Since opening two years ago, The Little Gallery has gained a reputation for high-calibre exhibitions of modern and contemporary British art.

The exhibition runs until Friday, April 17 at The Little Gallery, 1 The Parade, Marlborough, and is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
