Morecambe art gallery to close after 23 years

August 22, 20242 Mins Read

The Crescent Gallery in Bare, Morecambe

A popular art gallery in Morecambe is set to close due to the retirement of its owner.

The Crescent Gallery on Princes Crescent in Bare is currently holding a retirement sale after 23 years in business.

The gallery, which stocks a range of original and collectible limited edition prints including from national and local artists, and also provides an in-house framing service, is expected to shut in September.

Owner Gill Coleman announced the news with a post on The Crescent Gallery Facebook page, which said:

“I established The Crescent Gallery & Picture Framing 23 years ago and have run it almost single handedly (except for the ‘Saturday boy’ my husband Steve!!!) running the gallery and carrying out the framing.

“Making the decision to retire has been very difficult as the gallery has been my baby but inevitably as the work is physically demanding and I’m not getting any younger the time is right as I need more time with family and friends.

“So I’ll be winding down the gallery over the next few weeks starting with a retirement sale commencing Thursday 15th August.

“I wish to take this opportunity to thank all my loyal customers over the past 23 years for their continued support and hope that you all feel you’ve benefited from the business and hope the window displays have entertained the residents of Bare village.”

Customers posted on the page to wish Gill well in her retirement.

Colette wrote: “So sad to hear this, I enjoy looking at your wonderful window displays, and have also purchased a massive tiger print in frame from you years ago. On the plus side enjoy your well deserved retirement.”

And Barbara said: “Sorry to see you go. We’ve been customers from afar for a few years now. We wish you all the best in your retirement.”

The Crescent Gallery website will remain active for a time for enquiries HERE.
