Stephenson’s Gallery is hosting The Northern Boys, a showcase of outdoor paintings by a collective of leading British artists.
The exhibition runs until Sunday, November 2, at the Clifford Street gallery.
Mark Stephenson, gallery director, said: “Hosting The Northern Boys is a fulfilment of Stephenson’s Gallery’s mission to champion the highest calibre of contemporary Northern art in York.
“Their work exemplifies the power of direct observation—it is distinctly of the moment in which it was created, and yet utterly timeless.
“This collective camaraderie and dedication to their craft ensures that the standard of work remains truly exceptional.”
The Northern Boys are known for their en plein air (outdoor) painting, capturing scenes across the UK and beyond.
Their work has earned national awards and membership in institutions such as the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts.
The group includes Adam Ralston, Michael J Ashcroft, Andrew Farmer, David Allen, Steven P Smith, Ian Layton, Chris Slater, and Norman Long.
The exhibition also features Haidee-Jo Summers, described as the group’s Northern Girl since 2020.
Admission is free and original artworks will be available for purchase.
