Sculptor Shares Artworks at ATU Through Sept. 20

Norman Hall Art Gallery Opening Exhibit Fall 2024
“Let’s See Where This Goes” by Brian Painter is open at Arkansas Tech University’s Norman Hall Art Gallery through Friday, Sept. 20.

Norman Hall Art Gallery at Arkansas Tech University is featuring the works of sculptor Brian Painter during a season-opening exhibit entitled “Let’s See Where This Goes.”

The exhibit is available for viewing weekdays (excluding Labor Day) from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. through Friday, Sept. 20, at 203 West Q Street in Russellville. Admission is free and open to the public.

“Let’s See Where This Goes” features sculptures made of fabricated metal and found objects. According to a statement posted alongside the exhibit, Painter “took inspiration from the familiar environments in which he is immersed” and that the result is a collection that is “a playful blend of both the literal and metaphorical.”

Painter is professor of sculpture at Northern Arizona University. He is also a storyteller, outdoorsman and Colorado River guide.

“Let’s See Where This Goes” is the first of four exhibits planned for Norman Hall Art Gallery during the fall 2024 semester. Subsequent shows will include the ATU Faculty Biennial (Sept. 30-Oct. 25), the 18th annual ATU Juried Student Competitive Exhibition (Nov. 6-15) and the ATU Art Education Senior Exhibition (Nov. 23-Dec. 4).

Kris Waid-Jones, ATU assistant professor of sculpture, is beginning his first year as director of the Norman Hall Art Gallery.

Waid-Jones joined the ATU faculty in 2022. He succeeds Neal Harrington as director of the gallery. Harrington, ATU professor of art, oversaw the art gallery at Arkansas Tech for two decades before stepping aside at the conclusion of the spring 2024 semester. Harrington remains an active member of the ATU art faculty.
