Superposition Gallery is proud to present their latest exhibition at 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair featuring Nigerian artist Layo Bright in a show titled Bloom, at Booth E13 at Somerset House on the Strand in London which coincides with Frieze London from October 10-13, 2024.

The exhibition will be open to the public Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11:00 to 19:00. Superposition will be one of more than 60 presenting galleries that were hand selected to participate.

Bloom expounds on Bright’s glass sculpture motifs, elegance and transparency. Each work in the exhibit is beautifully crafted with kiln formed glass, flameworked glass, mirrored glass, and blown glass. Using personal histories, Layo Bright gives life to the uniqueness of the diaspora. She is often inspired by the resilience to survive while navigating complex life-defining issues.

Layo Bright comments: “The works presented will be a series of sculptures honoring women’s stories and cultural influences from West Africa. The predominant medium for these works is glass, a material I use for its versatility and metaphorical connotations.”

In previous years, Superposition participated in 1-54’s fairs in Harlem, New York, and Marrakech, Morocco. For Storm, it was a natural decision to bring an exhibition to life in London with 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair. Ascher appreciates 1-54 for their nomadic style, which aligns perfectly with the gallery’s mission of making art from the diaspora more accessible to a global audience.

Storm Ascher, Founder of Superposition Gallery, continues:“Having worked with Layo since the first year of our gallery’s founding in 2018, I am overjoyed to be able to share this nomadic experience together in London. When we first worked together back in Los Angeles, Layo was not yet working in glass, and now it’s her most recognizable form of output. After her recent success from her solo museum exhibition at the Aldrich here in the US, I am eager to see how the UK audience responds to her work. Layo’s ability to create delicate media with such a powerful process mirrors the concepts she cares so deeply about, evoking deep ancestral and matrilineal legacy.”

This will be Superposition’s first time presenting at 1-54 London. As a nomadic gallery, founder Storm Ascher emphasizes her mission of making art accessible to all people by collaborating with like-minded artists and fairs, sharing borrowed spaces, and helping artists gain visibility. This approach allows artists to shine and share their work on multiple platforms simultaneously.
