Norwich Art Shop, in Upper St Giles Street, is a collective art space shared between more than 20 artists.
Each artist pays rent proportional to the size of their showcasing space and they take turns volunteering to open the galleries and shop to the public.
Just after 2am yesterday, neighbours were alerted to a banging noise as somebody tried to break into the venue and police were made aware.

A Norwich Art Shop representative confirmed the only damage was to the front door.
“Luckily our neighbours heard the banging and managed to disturb the perpetrator,” they said.
“As far as we know the door was the only casualty and it has been boarded up for now.
“Hopefully we will be able to open as soon as the door can be replaced.”
A woman in her 50s has since been arrested on suspicion of burglary and criminal damage.
She was taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
Tiffany Leech, aged 52 and of no fixed address, was later charged with theft and attempted burglary.
She has been remanded into custody and is due to appear at Norwich Magistrates Court today.
