Newly appointed Finance Minis­ter Jack Chambers takes his political roles extremely seriously. Consider his recent position as Fianna Fáil’s director of local elections when he regularly sent WhatsApp voicenotes to Fianna Fáil candidates in the lead-up to polling day on June 7. Rallying the troops was his priority.

Four days before votes were cast, the Galway man told party colleagues to focus, map out the remaining days and plan them carefully.
