Hydro Group expand cable manufacturing capabilities by investing in state-of-the-art Bunching and Layup Machine

 

Hydro Group, a global leader in bespoke subsea connectivity solutions have invested further in their cable manufacturing facility with the acquisition of a new Bunching and Layup Machine.

The new machine will replace the old High Speed Twinner Quadder, enabling the business to increase capability by 50% in terms of number of components within each cable design and reduce lead times, whilst maintaining superior quality which is crucial to meet demand and satisfy customers. The machine can process up to six subcomponents, providing a maximum 20mm overall diameter and will assist to maximise efficiency within Hydro Group due to its ability to run lights-out and produce longer lengths.

Robert Zielinski, Operations Manager commented “We are committed to continuous improvement within our manufacturing facility and this investment will increase our efficiency, capability and the quality of our final deliverable. “

Developments and Features:

  • Manufactures significantly longer lengths of cable
  • Increased processing speeds from 8 metres a minute to 50 metres a minute
  • Legacy TSP max length – 4000m, New TSP max length – 30000m
  • Shorter lead times
  • Increased range of cable designs

Dylan Bruce, Business Development Manager added, “The Sales team are excited about this new addition to the facility. It allows us to offer a wider range of cable designs with much shorter lead times which can only be a good thing for our customers”

Hydro Group manufacture a huge range of harsh environment cables suitable for both Topside and Subsea applications including ROV Tethers, Tow Cables, Hose Umbilicals, Data Cables, Armoured Umbilicals and many more. They also have a wide range of cable designs available Ex-Stock.

The latest investment is part of a long-term investment strategy which has already seen the arrival of a new extrusion line and the first of two new braiding machines, showing Hydro Group’s commitment to growth and continuous improvement.
