WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) awarded eight Safer Streets for All grants totaling $3,336,428 to communities across Ohio. The program funds regional and local initiatives through grants to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries.
The investment was made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law – legislation that Brown helped write and pass – and will support the development of safety action plans and safety improvements.
“With this latest investment from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we are helping Ohio communities make our roads safer,” said Brown. “This investment will put in place safety plans that will help to prevent serious accidents and keep Ohioans safe.”
Investments from the Department of Transportation include:
- $2,120,000 to the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) for a Crash Analytics and Injury Research program to improve data collection and modeling in traffic safety.
- $476,000 to the City of Monroe to create a safety action plan.
