Columbia Threadneedle’s Scott Spencer joins Square Mile as investment director

June 18, 20242 Mins Read

Scott Spencer (pictured) has joined Square Mile Investment Consulting and Research as an investment director, in the firm’s investment management team.

In his new role, he will help manage Square Mile’s MPS and investment solutions, as well as the company’s wider investment propositions across all arms of the business.

Prior to joining Square Mile, Spencer joined BMO Asset Management’s LLP multi-asset team as a partner 10 years ago, with the business becoming part of Columbia Threadneedle in 2021.

Spencer, alongside colleagues Kelly Prior and Rob Burdett, exited the firm in February this year as the result of a restructure.

Prior to joining BMO, Spencer spent four and-a-half years at Abrdn Asset Management as senior investment manager, and five years as a portfolio manager at Credit Suisse. Abrdn acquired Credit Suisse in 2009.

Mark Harries, CIO at Square Mile, said: “At Square Mile, we have always emphasised the importance of providing personalised investment propositions focused on the needs of each adviser client that we partner with rather than off-the-shelf solutions. Central to delivering this is the expertise of our investment team and we are committed to attracting talented individuals to further enhance our expertise.

“Scott is evidence of this commitment as an investment professional who has demonstrated considerable portfolio management and fund research acuity in a range of roles at prominent asset management houses.”

Spencer added he is joining Square Mile at an “exciting time in its growth, as it continues to partner with its adviser clients in delivering investment solutions tailored to their needs, while working alongside the portfolio management team across the broader Titan group”.

“The firm’s ‘client first’ culture is particularly appealing in an industry where MPS solutions are frequently commoditised, and I look forward to being part of the ongoing success of Square Mile’s Investment Management proposition,” he said.
