CHENNAI: Investments by Private Equity-Venture Capital (PE-VC) firms fell sharply by $3.8 billion in April, 2024 at $1.7 billion against $5.5 billion in April last year (2023), data released by Venture Intelligence on Tuesday revealed.
On a year-to-date (YTD) basis, the collective value of PE-VC investments in Jan-April CY2024 stood at $8.1 billion, which was at $12.3 billion during the same four-month period a year ago (CY2023).
The total number of deals also marginally dipped in Jan-April CY2024 at 294 from 302 deals recorded during the same period last year.
Apollo Health Co Limited’s (AHL), a subsidiary of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited (AHEL), binding agreement to raise equity capital of Rs 2,475 crore from global private equity investor Advent International topped the list of investments in April 2024.
“The general sense is that we will start seeing a sustained recovery on a YoY basis starting in the second half of 2024. In the PE segment, investments in the healthcare & life sciences industry stood out led by the Apollo Health-Advent International mega deal. In the VC segment, home grown firms like Blume Ventures, Fireside Ventures and Anicut Capital are taking new bets in recent months,” Arun Natarajan, founder, Venture Intelligence, told TOI.
