When Can We Expect A Profit From Airtasker Limited (ASX:ART)?

February 14, 20244 Mins Read

With the business potentially at an important milestone, we thought we’d take a closer look at Airtasker Limited’s (ASX:ART) future prospects. Airtasker Limited engages in the provision of technology-enabled online marketplaces for local services in Australia. The AU$113m market-cap company announced a latest loss of AU$13m on 30 June 2023 for its most recent financial year result. The most pressing concern for investors is Airtasker’s path to profitability – when will it breakeven? We’ve put together a brief outline of industry analyst expectations for the company, its year of breakeven and its implied growth rate.

View our latest analysis for Airtasker

Consensus from 2 of the Australian Interactive Media and Services analysts is that Airtasker is on the verge of breakeven. They anticipate the company to incur a final loss in 2025, before generating positive profits of AU$2.3m in 2026. So, the company is predicted to breakeven approximately 2 years from now. In order to meet this breakeven date, we calculated the rate at which the company must grow year-on-year. It turns out an average annual growth rate of 105% is expected, which is rather optimistic! Should the business grow at a slower rate, it will become profitable at a later date than expected.

ASX:ART Earnings Per Share Growth February 14th 2024

We’re not going to go through company-specific developments for Airtasker given that this is a high-level summary, but, keep in mind that typically a high growth rate is not out of the ordinary, particularly when a company is in a period of investment.

One thing we’d like to point out is that Airtasker has no debt on its balance sheet, which is rare for a loss-making growth company, which typically has high debt relative to its equity. This means that the company has been operating purely on its equity investment and has no debt burden. This aspect reduces the risk around investing in the loss-making company.
