André 3000 and Kim Gordon will play the AGNSW Volume Series

May 7, 20242 Mins Read

Today marks an exciting day in the calendars of Australian music lovers (particularly after a sordid few months of sad music news and festival closures).

Today, the Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW) has announced their upcoming ‘Volume Series’, the pioneering music series set to return this July at their underground Tank precinct in their new contemporary art wing.

This year’s series builds on the success of last year’s iteration, which featured three sold-out performances from Solange, and exhilarating takeovers of AGNSW’s new Naala Badu building from Sampa The Great, Mount Eerie and more.

For everything you need to know about AGNSW’s 2024 ‘Volume Series’, read on…

Who is playing?

The Art Gallery of NSW’s iconic Tank precinct will be headlined by four visionary Australian and international musicians, including André 3000, who will be in the country for the first time in a decade.

The American hip-hop titan will be performing his critically acclaimed experimental jazz project New Blue Sun live. André will be accompanied by a phenomenal group of American jazz and new-age musicians like Carlos Niño, Nate Mercereau, Surya Botofasina and Deantoni Parks.

Kim Gordon – of Sonic Youth fame – (and who we recently had on the RUSSH podcast) will be presenting music from her solo catalogue, including her latest album The Collective.

Ghanaian-Australian multidisciplinary performing artist Genesis Owusu will open ‘Volume Series’, playing new work backed by The Black Dog Band, Kirin J Callinan and Touch Sensitive’s Tim Commandeur.

And of course, LA-based Zimbabwean-Australian singer and rapper Tkay Maidza will be returning to Sydney for a single Australian headlining, before returning to the US.

When is it happening?

Friday 5 July until Sunday 21 July, 2024.

How much are tickets?

Tickets for the ‘Volume Series’ will range in price from $80–$150.

When and where are tickets on sale?

‘Volume Series’ pre-sale tickets will be available to purchase from 11am (AEST) on Tuesday 21 May, 2024.

General sale tickets will be available to purchase from 11am (AEST) on Wednesday 22 May, 2024. Pre-sale and general sale tickets will be available through the Volume Sydney website.
