André 3000 Will Headline This Year’s Volume Festival At The Art Gallery Of NSW

May 7, 20242 Mins Read

After an epic first edition, the Art Gallery of NSW’s music-meets-art Volume festival is on lock to return this year. This morning, a first look at the lineup was revealed.

Performing live for Volume in the cavernous underground Tank space will be André 3000’s critically acclaimed experimental jazz project, “New Blue Sun”, Sonic Youth founding member and pioneer of American grunge, Kim Gordon, Ghanaian-Australian multi-disciplinary artist Gensis Owusu, and Zimbabwean-Australian singer-songwriter and rapper, Tkay Maidza.

It’s the first time André 3000 has performed in Australia in over a decade—and the New Blue Sun show is an Australian exclusive. Best known as one half of Outkast, this time Andre 3000 will be accompanied by an awe-inspiring troup of American jazz and new-age musicians, including Carlos Nino, Nate Mercereay, Surya Botofasina, and Deantoni Parks.

Genesis Owusu will open the festival with a never-before-seen art-inspired performance featuring new music. Kim Gordon will perform work from her solo catalogue, including her highly praised solo album The Collective, which was released earlier this year. Fresh from supporting Dua Lipa, Tkay Maidza will light up the Tank space for one night only as her first headline show in Australia for 2024.

More artists and extra details about the event are expected to drop soon. Tickets will go for $80-$150 and go on sale on Tuesday 21 May at 11am (pre-sale) and Wednesday 22 May at 11am (general sale). Sign up for pre-sale here.
