Art gallery is latest venue to join Blackburn live music revival

February 5, 20252 Mins Read

Curators at Prism, the contemporary art gallery in Lord Street West, are behind a triple-header tomorrow, Friday.

Blackburn Gigs is an umbrella initiative looking to inject fresh impetus into the town’s night-time economy and music scene.

Laura James, who has been performing on the Cumbria folk scene since the age of 14, is one act lined up for Prism.

She will be joined by Alexander Hulme, fusing modern folk and alt pop, with rave reviews from Sir Paul McCartney and BBC Introducing under his belt.

The third artist for the showcase is Bright Light Rooney, a Glasgow-born singer now based in Lancashire. Tickets are available on the Skiddle website.

A Prism spokesman said the gathering will be “an intimate evening of grassroots music”.

“Join us for an evening of live music, featuring three exceptional artists. The event promises a night of raw talent, heartfelt story-telling, and captivating performances.

“It’s really important to us to keep building to bring as much art and music to Blackburn as we can, supporting local creatives and bringing as much to the local community as we can.”

Meanwhile Sunbird Records in Darwen has a triple header of its own, with indie rock hopefuls from near and far coming to town.

Manchester five-piece The Cavs, echoing Kasabian and The Libertines, will be joined by alt rockers Full Billy and Burnley’s The Stride at the venue on Saturday.
