Art talk at MAG on work of Joseph Fiore

May 31, 20242 Mins Read

Two former Damariscotta gallerists, who showed the work of Joseph Fiore, will be sharing memories of this major American artist at the Maine Art Gallery (MAG) on Saturday, June 1 at 4 p.m. The talk is in conjunction with the current exhibition, “Generations: The Legacy of Mentors,” in which Fiore has a number of works.

Yvette Torres, who owned Yvette Torres Fine Art, first located in Damariscotta and then in Rockland, featured work of the renowned Black Mountain College artists, one of whom was Fiore. Geoffrey Robinson owned the River Gallery in Damariscotta and showed 19th and 20th century American painting, including work by Fiore. Robinson was also a personal friend and visited Fiore’s farmhouse studio in Jefferson when the artist and his wife were in Maine in the summer. They will be in conversation with MAG board member Kay Tobler Liss,  who met Fiore back in the early 2000s and wrote about his art.

The show, which has garnered much acclaim and features a full-color catalogue, will be up until June 9. The Maine Art Gallery gratefully acknowledges season sponsor, Sherri Dunbar of Tim Dunham Realty and capital sponsor, Islebrook Village at Wiscasset, an Everbrook Senior Living Community. A donation ascribed to Friends of the Maine Art Gallery is the Exhibition Sponsor. Hours are Thursday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gallery is located at 15 Warren St., Wiscasset.
