Blackburn art gallery to draw on fresh funding

August 8, 20242 Mins Read

Curators at Prism Contemporary have confirmed the Lord Street West venture has received further backing from Arts Council England.

And it is hoped the funding will act as a springboard for Prism, which has faced a stop-start 2024.

An earlier exhibition by Lancashire artist Iain H Williams – ‘It’s Not You, It’s Me’ – had to be postponed back in February because of building issues with their town centre base.

But the venue bounced back in July during Blackburn’s National Festival of Making, hosting members of Pendle Pottery Studio as a workshop space.

A Prism spokesman said this week: “We’re super happy to announce we’ve successfully secured another round of funding from Arts Council England.

“We’ve been a little quiet recently but we’ll be more present in the coming weeks with some announcements of our upcoming programme and welcoming some lovely new members of our Prism Contemporary team.”

An announcement is expected soon over the rescheduling of Williams’ exhibition.

The last exhibition to be staged there was Sokunge, by Zimbabwe artist Masimba Hwati, in January and February, celebrating ‘small acts of resistance’.

The gallery was first established in 2016, founded by Jamie Holman and Steven Baldwin, and was previously awarded Arts Council England funding last year to support the creative endeavours of Northern working class artists.
