Check out Through The Eyes of a Newcomer art exhibition in Clonmel gallery

July 5, 20242 Mins Read

Through The Eyes of a Newcomer opened last week in The Narrow Space Gallery, Clonmel.

An exhibition of new works from Indian artist and Clonmel resident Rutuja Kulkarni, it was opened by Mr Shriram Ligde, Director of Director Global Development Quality and QP at Merck, Sharpe and Dome, Ballydine.

This exhibition is a part of Clonmel Junction Arts Festival Legacy theme in that it is a celebration of artistic expression in the context of a newcomer to our town who is showing us elements of Clonmel, old and new, through the medium of watercolour and pen and ink drawings.

‘I thought it would be interesting to ask a newcomer to Clonmel,’ says gallery owner Aisling Kilroy, ‘to give us a selection of paintings of the town and its surroundings. We might be surprised by what we see….or maybe not….but we are dure to be delighted as Rutuja is a fine watercolourist.’

From Pune in India, Rutuja came to Ireland in 2021 with her young son to join her husband, an electronics engineer, who moved here in 2016. By profession, Rutuja is an Automotive Electronics Engineer but her passion in life is painting. Rutuja primarily works with watercolours.

Landscape painting is her favourite area and hence light and shadow are her principal concerns. These days she is exploring cityscapes, paintings, mixed-media platforms, floral paintings, still-life and many more. She loves Clonmel due to its scenic location, surrounded with mountains and being blessed with a beautiful river.

The exhibition will run until Saturday 31 August, admission is free and everyone is welcome! The gallery is open Tuesday – Saturday 10.30am – 5.30pm.
