Falmouth Art Gallery new programme of exhibitions 2026/27

April 3, 20262 Mins Read

The season is already underway with Magic of Movement: Automata and the Memory Café, which runs until May 9.

The interactive exhibition delves into the imaginative world of automata and how mechanical movement can support connection and wellbeing, particularly for people living with memory loss.

Works by leading automata makers — including Fi Henshall, Keith Newstead, Paul Spooner and Carlos Zapata — are shown alongside paintings from the gallery’s own collection.

Opening on May 23, the summer exhibition Mirrors: Reflecting on Identity brings together a diverse group of artists to explore ideas of self-perception and self-expression.

Featured names include Sarah Ball, Claude Cahun, Ithell Colquhoun, Naomi Frears, Gluck, Maggi Hambling, Diane Ibbotson, Kirsty Latoya, Marco Livingstone, Ken Nwadiogbu, Grayson Perry, SHARP and Cindy Sherman.

The gallery says the show will invite visitors to reflect on how identity is shaped, performed and reimagined.

Later in the year, an ambitious Artist Takeover will run from October 2 until February 9, 2027.

Selected through an open call held in 2025, the exhibition hands creative control to a group of contemporary artists and collectives who will reshape the gallery space with new commissions and site-specific installations.

Participating artists include Small Acts, Fran Rowse, Resonant Forms Collective, Charlie Duck and Justin Wiggins & Oona Luras.

Alongside the exhibitions, Falmouth Art Gallery will continue to offer workshops, talks and community events throughout the year. Admission remains free, with the gallery centrally located in the Municipal Buildings on The Moor.

Falmouth Art Gallery is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm (closing at 4pm until 7 April, and closed on bank holidays). More information is available at www.falmouthartgallery.com.
