First ever Led By Donkeys exhibition to take place in Bristol

August 15, 20242 Mins Read

The first ever exhibition of the work of Led By Donkeys is taking place in Bristol.

The exhibition at 17 Midland Road in St Philip’s is coinciding with the publication of Led By Donkey’s new book, Adventures in Art: Activism & Accountability.

Since being founded in 2019, Led By Donkeys – who describe themselves as a ‘political accountability collective’ – have become known for their work on billboards and projections.

Led By Donkeys hit the headlines again on Tuesday when they unveiled a lettuce banner behind Liz Truss on her pro-Trump speaking tour.

The former prime minister said the prank was “not funny”, and called Led By Donkeys “far-left activists” who used the stunt as a means to “intimidate people and suppress free speech”.

The exhibition across three floors at 17 Midland Road will be exclusively showcasing behind-the-scenes work including large-scale photographic documentation, material from Led By Donkeys’ installations and film screenings.

Organisers promise that the exhibition “will celebrate and explain for the first time some of the most radical and memorable political interventions in modern history”.

The free exhibition opens on September 12 with a book launch for Adventures in Art, Activism and Accountability – promising to tell “the true stories behind five years of Led By Donkeys direct action” – and runs until September 15.

17 Midland Road is also now available to stay in via AirBnb. For more information and to book, visit www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/1203376259349222366
