Local Colors Nagaland inaugurates art gallery and exhibition | MorungExpress

Kohima | August 19 

Local Colors Nagaland inaugurated its Art Gallery and Exhibition at Central Plaza in Kohima today. 

Speaking at the inauguration, NLA Speaker Sharingain Longkumer spoke on the initiatives of the state government in recent times to support and promote diverse art forms and talents in Nagaland. 

Through various departments like the art and culture department or the formation of TaFMA, the speaker opined that these visionaries have been dynamic leads in this field. Today, he said the state is in a momentous and auspicious moment for artists in different field where Nagaland is in the midst of celebrating the 60 years of statehood and the celebration of 25 years of Hornbill Festival. Longkumer said it is an opportunity to encourage young talents in the likes of these artists to present the best of their talents. 

Longkumer meanwhile said everyone is gifted with different talents and encouraged the young people to pursue their passion to greater heights beyond the state and country and internationally. 

The speaker at the same time also asked the people to support their endeavour as it takes a lot of time and hardwork to bring out a fine piece. To the artists, he said the products they create and visualize must represent God and visualize God in all this small things. 

TaFMA Director, Hovithal Sothu spoke about the dedication of the artists who have been in the profession and collaborated with TaFMA. He said the art they have been doing have been pushed to the backbench and has been dominated by photography or Artificial intelligence. 

However, he said time, hardwork, and creativity into bringing out a masterpiece was more worth. Sothu also thanked the government and individuals for patronizing art regardless of such modern readymade pieces and called to promote the local produces by endorsing their products. 

Representing a group of local artists from the state, the Local Colors Nagaland has five members. During the exhibition, six artists are featuring their art and paintings including Among Venuh, Mhashi Kenna-o, Dr Vivotsolie Mor, Toshi Longkumer, Vimhakho Sotetsu and Lipokmanen. The members who are based in Kohima have collaborated together in their field for more than 5 years. Apart from their profession, one is a physician and another drawing teacher of a government school. 

About the art gallery, the members said that it is dedicated to celebrating and promoting the rich cultural heritage, art and traditions of Nagaland. 

“The name symbolizes the vibrant diversity and unique identity of the region, reflecting the ‘colors’ that make Nagaland’s culture so distinctive,” the group opined. 

Members of the group said that their small but passionate group with an aim to preserve and showcase traditional arts and crafts, serving as a bridge between the past and the future. 

Through our gallery, the artist said that they provide a platform for local artists to display their work. 

Apart from the exhibition, the paintings will be open for sale and is available for commission work. 

The paintings range from oil on board, acrylic on canvas among others.
