London Gallery Weekend: Shows, Tours and Programme

May 31, 20243 Mins Read

London Gallery Weekend provides an opportunity to discover and explore London’s world-class gallery scene, from galleries that are cornerstones of the global art world to the capital’s most progressive and experimental art spaces. This year, the event takes place over three days from Friday 31 May to Sunday 2 June. Here are just a few highlights from the new openings and special events happening across the city.

No.9 Cork Street, Frieze’s gallery space in the heart of Mayfair, will celebrate London Gallery Weekend on Friday 31 May with the opening of three new exhibitions: ‘Rameshwar Broota; Architectures of Momentum’, ‘Fathi Hassan: Shifting Sands’ and ‘Macabre’, a group exhibition inspired by  Edward Burra’s fascination with the gruesome (11am–6pm); alongside John Akomfrah’s new Banners commission on Cork Street. Other new shows opening on 31 May include Nan Goldin’s film screening of Sisters, Saints, Sibyls (2004–22) at the deconsecrated Welsh Chapel on Charing Cross Road, presented by Gagosian Open (11am–6pm); ‘Yuan Fang: Dangerous Waters’ at Skarstedt (11am–6pm); and Victoria Miro’s exhibition by Trinidad and Tobago painters Boscoe Holder and Geoffrey Holder, being shown together for the first time (special preview, Friday 31 May 10am–6pm). Modern Art will also unveil a solo exhibition by Richard Aldrich across its Helmet Row and Bury St spaces (from Saturday 1 June, 11am–6pm). Explore the full exhibition programme here.

Special events for London Gallery Weekend on 31 May include a tour of Atta Kwami’s exhibition at Goodman Gallery with curator Melissa Blanchflower (Turner Contemporary) from 11am–12pm; a conversation between artist Jodie Carey and curator Joseph Constable (De La Warr Pavilion) at Edel Assanti at 12pm, and between Giulia Andreani and art critic and writer Hettie Judah at Galerie Max Hetzler from 5–6pm; and the opening reception for ‘A Flame is a Petal’, Mohammed Z Rahman’s solo exhibition at Phillida Reid, from 6–8pm. On Sunday 2 June, Seventeen gallery will celebrate the opening of ‘Sub-Scanners’, Nina Davies’s first solo exhibition at the gallery, with a special ‘brunch’ event from 1–2pm.
