August 7, 20242 Mins Read

It might be all about the gold in Paris but its a silver set exciting Cottesloe this week.

The latest exhibit at Cottesloe’s new art gallery is set to showcase a stunning collection of silver sculptures, drawing from the masterful mind of renowned artist and craftsman Phillip Noakes.

Linton & Kay Galleries will be hosting the WA artist’s latest exhibition Sculptural Silver from Friday, displaying a number of unique objects and vessels Noakes created using flat sheets of silver and other precious metals.

Your local paper, whenever you want it.

Among the pieces are a number of delicately crafted bowls, with the majority crafted out of his local studio.

“My latest body of work encompasses the classical bowl form, combining traditional skills with modern fabrication techniques and sculptural aesthetics,” Noakes said.

“My practice responds to the changing environment in which I find myself and through exploration of a diverse array of options, both artistic and practical.”

Since studying in London, Noakes has earned recognition for his work both in Australia and overseas, with a number of his pieces currently being displayed in public collections and museums across the country.

“Silversmithing remains my passion and I embrace the challenge of designing and creating beautiful objects while keeping abreast of recent technology and innovations, and using history as my reference bank to invigorate my creativity and experimentation,” Noakes added.

The exhibition continues at Cottesloe until September 1 before showing at the Rockingham Arts Centre as part of Indian Ocean Craft Triennial 2024.
