Newtown Art Gallery Presents Double Opening Of Exhibits

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The art consortium, ArtWRKD, presents a double opening on Friday, May 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. for “Unveiled Threads” and “Roots and Wings.” The reception takes place at the gallery at 128 South State Street.

Unveiled Threads

“Unveiled Threads,” an exhibition that pushes the boundaries of fiber, showcasing fine artistry, inventive textiles, and show-stopping imagery, is on view at the gallery through May 19.

The exhibition aims to celebrate the intersection of art and fiber, inviting both artists and the audience to explore the limitless possibilities and the celebration of static fiber art to be shown at ArtWRKD Exhibition Space. The exhibition will feature Newtown native, hosiery artist Lucine, sculptural fiber artist Katie Truk, fabric assemblage portraiture artist Meryl Lettire, Mixed media artist Katee Boyle, free stitch artist Lorraine Cahill, and experimental artist Margaret Koval.

The exhibit opens with a reception on Friday, May 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. and runs through May 19.

A Wearable Art Fashion Show will be held on May 17 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the gallery. The show features an immersive experience within the fiber art exhibition, inviting both artists and the audience to explore the limitless possibilities of textiles. This ticketed event is a partnership with Triple Sun Spirits Newtown.

Roots and Wings

ArtWRKD invites the public to embark on a journey of introspection and inspiration with the opening of a solo exhibition by Melissa “Mesa” Matarese entitled, “Roots and Wings.”

M. Matarese, a dedicated advocate for living a creative lifestyle deeply rooted in nature and community service, presents a collection that echoes her profound reverence for the natural world and her commitment to enriching the lives of those around her.

At the heart of Matarese’s ethos lies a passionate dedication to living authentically and with integrity, epitomizing the values of freedom and kindness. Her diverse body of work reflects a life lived with purpose, from her pioneering endeavors such as building an o-grid tiny house on wheels, to establishing community gardens like The Peace Garden at TileWorks, providing sustenance and solace to local residents.

The exhibition “Roots and Wings” offers a multifaceted exploration of Matarese’s artistic vision, showcasing an expansive body of work encompassing drawings, paintings, sculpture, ceramics, and pottery. Central to the exhibition is the debut of “Iridescent Tears,” a poignant collection of
55 poems and prayers, accompanying Matarese’s evocative artwork.

Matarese’s creative journey extends beyond the confines of her studio, as she shares her wisdom and passion through initiatives such as leading donation-based CommUNITY Yoga classes for the past 12 years. Additionally, her adventurous spirit has led her on travels around the planet, immersing herself in the inner and outer wilderness, gathering inspiration from the natural world.

M. Matarese is a Bucks County native artist, environmentalist, and community activist. With a deep-seated passion for nature and a commitment to service, Matarese’s artwork reflects her reverence for the environment and her dedication to fostering connection and compassion
within her community.
