Quick Pick – Robin Wiltse at Grand Forks Art Gallery

August 22, 20241 Min Read

Robin Wiltse’s latest exhibition, Altered Perceptions, explores the ways people have used history, folklore, nature and myth to explain life and death.

See it now through Nov. 9 at Grand Forks Art Gallery in Grand Forks, British Columbia.

Wiltse turned to her art practice, a series of felted works, after her teenage daughter died of bone cancer. The repetitive process of the needle in the felt shares parallels to patterns found in time and nature. Her work is meticulous and detailed, colourful and full of symbolism and hope. “Each stroke of my art is a manifestation of my emotions and memories,” says Wiltse.

“Through her eyes, we are able to witness the saddest times imaginable through the lens of fable and storytelling,” says the gallery team.

“Even though dark feelings and thoughts often take root there is beauty all around us. Flowers still bloom, skies still impress, and the cycles of nature are ceaseless, never pausing to mourn alongside.” ■

Robin Wiltse’s Altered Perceptions is on now through Nov. 9 at Grand Forks Art Gallery in Grand Forks, British Columbia.
