The event, first launched by Sir Godfrey Pilkington and the Rainford Trust in partnership with the Arts Service and St Helens College, has grown to be a significant cultural gathering in the area.
This year, the exhibition will once again take place at The World of Glass, home to the Godfrey Pilkington Art Gallery, from November 29, 2025, to February 28, 2026.

The public is invited to view the creative displays from 2pm on November 29.
Judging the competition this year will be celebrated artists Peter Humphries and Arthur Roberts, alongside artist and chairman of the open art competition Paul Cousins, and trainee curator and artist Tash Lofthouse.
The panel will select winners for a host of prizes and awards, including the St Helens Artists – First, Second, and Third Prize, the Liverpool City Region Artist Prize, 10 Highly Commended Awards, and the People’s Choice Prize.
In memory of a cherished figure in the arts community, the Jill Dagnall Prize will be introduced for the first time.
For the past three decades, the St Helens Open Art Competition has been a platform for local artists, nurturing new talent and fostering a community spirit centred around creativity.
